Guitar Teaching Experience
I have a college degree in music over 15 years experience as a guitar teacher. I specialize in individualizing lessons to each unique person’s learning style, personality, and musical interests.
I have taught all sorts of people from gifted teenagers that went on to major in music, to special needs children and adults. I love to have a variety of different students to work with, because it challenges my flexibility to adapt my lessons to create the most helpful learning atmosphere for the student.
Benefits of Learning an Instrument
Music is one of the best things to have in your life. It helps with dealing with anxiety and depression. It can increase intelligence and it gives the person an identity that includes being a musician. Having part of their identity related to being a musician is often helpful for preteens and teenagers.
Adults can also greatly benefit from learning guitar. Guitar is such a great instrument because it is portable, easy to play and sing along with and equally satisfying to play alone or in a social setting.
Self esteem and self confidence are boosted by learning a musical instrument. Grades in school often go up and every single cognitive process benefits from musical learning. There is research that there is a direct correlation between math and language scores, when someone studies music.
About my Teaching Method and Values
I believe in getting people playing right away. In order to do this, I have a personal method that allows someone to play along with a recording of a song , even before they learn all the chords, musical notation, tablature and music reading.
I have developed my style of teaching over many years of learning from my students about what works and what different people are able to succeed at.
Success in Learning Guitar
Success is key! People need to succeed to have a sense of self esteem about what they are doing. I want people to keep coming back, so I gear all of my lessons towards the student’s ability to be successful and to feel good about themselves.
Skype Guitar Lessons
I am planning on teaching guitar lesson on Skype. I spent 5 years teaching in a music store and many more years teaching private lessons in the home. I love the idea of online lessons, because I can meet and pass along my knowledge to all different kinds of people.
